Which airport should you fly into?

Tunis-Carthage (TUN): the main hub, 8 km from central Tunis. Best for city breaks, the north, Hammamet (90 min south by car) and most multi-region trips. Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE): a modern airport built specifically for the resort coast — 40 minutes from Hammamet and Sousse. The right choice if you're going straight to a beach hotel. Djerba-Zarzis (DJE): the island airport in the south. Direct flights from across Europe in summer, fewer in winter. The fastest route to Djerba and a useful entry point for desert trips via Tataouine and Douz. Monastir-Habib Bourguiba (MIR) and Sfax-Thyna (SFA) handle some charter and regional traffic but are smaller.

When to book and what to pay

Cheapest months for flights: November, early December, January, February (excluding Christmas/NY), and the first three weeks of March. Return fares from European hubs regularly drop to €80–€140. Mid-range: April, May, late September, October. Expect €120–€200. Peak: mid-June through August. €200–€350+, with school-holiday weeks the most expensive. Book 6–10 weeks ahead for the best fare-to-flexibility ratio. Tuesday/Wednesday flights are typically cheaper than Friday/Sunday. Baggage and what to expect

Most full-service carriers (Tunisair, Air France, Lufthansa, Turkish) include 1×23 kg checked bag. Low-cost carriers (Ryanair, Transavia) charge separately — budget €25–€60 each way for a checked bag. Tunisia is generous with hand-luggage rules in practice, but follow your airline's published limits to avoid gate fees. Liquids over 100 ml: in checked baggage only. On arrival, e-visa or passport-stamping for visa-free nationals is usually fast (15–30 minutes). Buy a local SIM (Ooredoo, Orange, Tunisie Telecom) at the airport — €8–€15 for a tourist data pack.
