Luxury hotels: 5-star Tunisia

The Tunisian luxury scene has quietly become one of the best-value premium markets in the Mediterranean. A genuine 5-star room with sea view, two pools, three restaurants and a spa runs €180–€350 a night — half what the same hotel would cost in southern France or Italy.

Tunis & Sidi Bou Said

The Four Seasons Tunis (Gammarth) and the Mövenpick Hotel du Lac sit at the top of the capital's market — large rooms, big pools, full spas, sea or lagoon views, and the best restaurants in town. For something more boutique, Dar El Jeld and Dar Ben Gacem in the medina turn 18th-century houses into 8–12 room properties with pools, libraries and rooftops. In Sidi Bou Said, La Villa Bleue and Dar Said are the small luxury benchmarks: cliff-top, all white-and-blue, terraces straight out of a magazine.

Hammamet & the Cap Bon

La Badira, an adults-only 5-star with one of the most photographed pools in the Mediterranean, sits on a private cove in Hammamet. The Sah Hammamet Resort & Aquapark and the Steigenberger Marhaba Thalasso head up the family-friendly luxury options. Movenpick Hammamet South completes the list. Hammamet is also the heart of Tunisia's spa industry — most luxury hotels have full thalassotherapy centres using Mediterranean seawater.

Sousse, Mahdia & Djerba

In Sousse: the Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa El Kantaoui is the local 5-star benchmark. In Mahdia: Iberostar Selection Royal El Mansour and Vincci Mahdia Palace handle the high-end, both with excellent spas. On Djerba: the legendary Hasdrubal Prestige Thalassa & Spa, the Iberostar Selection Mehari Djerba, and the new Radisson Blu Palace Djerba lead the island. All of these hit international 5-star standards — and most include thalassotherapy facilities that would be a luxury add-on elsewhere in the Med.

What 'luxury' costs in Tunisia

A like-for-like 5-star double room with breakfast: €180–€280 in shoulder season, €250–€450 in July/August, drops to €120–€200 from November to March (excluding NY). For that you typically get: a generous room with sea view, multiple pools, 3–4 restaurants, full spa and thalasso, water-sports concession, kids' club, and a concierge who actually arranges things rather than just hands you a brochure. Add €40–€80/person for a half-board upgrade with à la carte options at most properties.
