Airport transfers in Tunisia

No need to overthink this — Tunisia's airports are well-served by taxis, hotel shuttles and ride-hail apps. Here's what each option costs, what to watch out for, and which one we'd choose at each airport.

25–35 TND
TUN → city centre taxi
20–30 TND
DJE → resort zone
80–100 TND
NBE → Hammamet
Bolt
Local ride-hail app

Official taxis

Yellow metered taxis wait outside arrivals at every airport. The official approach: insist on the meter ('compteur, s'il vous plaît') before you get in. A 50% night surcharge applies after 9pm. Have small notes — drivers rarely have change for a 50 TND. If the meter is 'broken', agree the fare in writing on a piece of paper before you start. Or step back and try the next car. This is the most common minor scam in Tunisia and easy to avoid.

Bolt and ride-hail

Bolt operates in Tunis, Sousse, Sfax, Hammamet and most major cities. Pickup is allowed at TUN (upper level) and most other airports. Prices are 20–30% below the official taxi rate, the route is tracked, the price is locked, and you don't argue about the meter. The one limitation: drivers can take a few extra minutes at busy times. For the airport, Bolt Plus or Bolt XL is worth the small extra fee for the larger vehicle.

Private pre-booked transfers

The premium option. A driver waits at arrivals with a name sign, helps with bags and takes you door-to-door in an air-conditioned car or van. Especially worth it for: late-night arrivals, families with luggage, transfers over 60 minutes, and group of 4+. Indicative prices: TUN → Tunis hotel €25–€35; TUN → Hammamet €55–€75; NBE → Hammamet €35–€50; NBE → Sousse €45–€60; DJE → resort zone €20–€30; DJE → Tataouine €70–€100.

Hotel shuttles and packages

Most 4-star and 5-star hotels offer airport pickup, either included in the rate (premium suites and packages) or as an add-on (€15–€45). For all-inclusive package holidays, the operator's coach transfer is included — look for your tour rep's sign in arrivals. For solo travellers and couples on a flexible budget, a Bolt is usually the best balance of price, comfort and predictability. For families and groups, pre-book a private transfer.
