Visa rules for GCC passports
All six GCC nationalities — Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman — are visa-free for Tunisia for stays up to 90 days. The only requirement at immigration is a passport valid for at least six months and an onward ticket. There is no entry tax.
Direct flights from the Gulf
In 2026 the major direct services to/from the Gulf:
- Saudia: Jeddah–Tunis and Riyadh–Tunis (3–5 weekly).
- Tunisair: Dubai–Tunis (3 weekly), Doha–Tunis, Jeddah–Tunis.
- Gulf Air: Bahrain–Tunis (4 weekly).
- Qatar Airways: Doha–Tunis (daily) and Doha–Djerba (seasonal).

Halal, prayer and modesty practicalities
All restaurants outside the international hotel chains serve halal meat by default — there is no need to ask. Major resorts in Hammamet, Sousse and Djerba have dedicated prayer rooms and provide qibla direction in every guest room. Mosques are everywhere; the call to prayer audible across most towns. Alcohol is served in international hotels and some restaurants but is not omnipresent in the way it can feel in Europe.
Beach modesty: most public beaches are mixed and Western-style. For more conservative families, several Djerba and Mahdia resorts offer separate women's pool areas, and Cap Bon has quieter beaches frequented by Tunisian families.
Best resorts for GCC families
Top picks for Gulf travellers in 2026:
- Hasdrubal Prestige Djerba — 5★ island all-inclusive, Arabic-speaking staff.
- The Residence Tunis — 5★ Leading Hotel, Gammarth beach, family suites.
- La Badira (Hammamet) — adult-only 5★ for couples retreats.
- Movenpick Sousse — large beachfront, family rooms, central location.
- TUI Blue Palm Beach Djerba — best for kids' clubs.
Cultural connections
Tunisia holds religious depth that Gulf travellers value: Kairouan is the fourth holiest city of Islam and the Great Mosque of Sidi Oqba (670 CE) is the oldest in the Maghreb. The medinas of Tunis, Sousse and Sfax preserve classical Islamic urban architecture that has been lost elsewhere. Combine a few nights of beach with a cultural circuit through Kairouan, Tunis and Sidi Bou Said.
