The five Tunisia's
Tunisia divides into five travel regions: the cosmopolitan North & Tunis; the beach-resort Sahel (Hammamet, Sousse, Mahdia, Sfax, El Jem); the forested North-West (Tabarka, Aïn Draham, Dougga); the South-East with Djerba and the Berber heartland; and the South-West & Sahara (Tozeur, Nefta, Douz, Chott el Jerid).
Suggested first-time route
Tunis (3) → Hammamet or Sousse (3) → drive south via El Jem → Tozeur (2) → Douz / Sahara overnight (1) → Djerba (2) → fly back to Tunis. ~12 days, every classic landscape, no day longer than 4 hours of driving.
