UK passport holders enter Tunisia visa-free for 90 days. Tunisair, EasyJet, Ryanair and TUI fly direct from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol to Enfidha, Tunis and Djerba. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel only to remote border regions; the entire tourist coast is rated normal-risk.

  • Visa-free for up to 90 days.
  • Direct flights: LGW–TUN (Tunisair), LGW/STN/MAN–NBE/DJE (TUI, EasyJet, Ryanair charters).
  • FCDO: avoid non-essential travel only to specific border zones — not the coast.
  • Mid-range budget: £60–95 per person per day.
  • Hammamet, Sousse and Djerba are the UK's three most-booked beach destinations.

Tunisia has been one of the UK's classic beach destinations since the 1970s, with TUI and Thomas Cook (until 2019) flying tens of thousands of British families to Hammamet, Sousse, Mahdia and Djerba every summer. After a pause following the Sousse incident in 2015, the FCDO downgraded its advisory in 2017, and UK arrivals are back to pre-2015 levels. As of 2026 Tunisia offers what is probably the best price-to-quality ratio of any Mediterranean beach holiday available from a British airport.

FCDO travel advice (current)

The FCDO advises against all travel to a 20km strip along the Libyan border, the Chaambi mountain national parks, and certain remote desert zones. It advises against all but essential travel to a few border zones and the area south of El Borma. Everywhere else — including all major tourist destinations — has no specific FCDO warning beyond the usual advice on personal safety, scam taxis, and avoiding demonstrations.

Travel insurance from major UK providers (Aviva, Direct Line, AXA, Saga) is valid for the main tourist regions provided you check the FCDO map before booking.

Visa and passport rules

UK passports get 90 days visa-free. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your departure date — six months is safer. There is no entry fee. A small departure tax (60 TND, about £15) is collected at the airport; most hotels will buy the stamp for you the day before you leave.

Direct flights from the UK

Direct flights from the UK in 2026:

  • London Gatwick–Tunis on Tunisair (year-round, several per week, ≈3 h).
  • London Stansted–Tunis on Ryanair (seasonal).
  • London Gatwick/Manchester/Birmingham–Enfidha on TUI charters (summer).
  • London Gatwick–Djerba on TUI charters (summer; also winter direct).
  • EasyJet from London Gatwick, Bristol and Manchester to Enfidha (summer seasonal).

What it costs in pounds

Tunisia is one of the few Mediterranean destinations where 5★ all-inclusive in 2026 costs less than 3★ Spain. Typical per-person budgets per day:

  • Backpacker: £35.
  • Mid-range hotel + meals + taxis: £60–95.
  • Luxury 5★ + driver + fine dining: £180–280.
  • Package week to Hammamet in June: £450–650 incl. flights from Gatwick.

Best Tunisia trips for UK travellers

Three patterns dominate UK bookings: a 7-night all-inclusive on a Hammamet or Sousse beach resort (the simplest); a 10-day fly-drive combining Tunis, Sousse, El Jem and Djerba; or a 14-day grand tour including the Sahara at Tozeur and Douz. La Badira (Hammamet), The Residence (Tunis), and Hasdrubal Prestige (Djerba) are the headline 5★ properties.
