Family return checklist

• Lock in flights or ferry — July/August prices double weekly after May. • Confirm everyone's passport validity (min. 6 months from return date). • Renew your TRE consular card if expired — required for OMRA quota and car admission. • Decide: flying with hold luggage allowance OR ferry with the car loaded. • If shipping a car: book ferry crossing (CTN, GNV, Corsica Linea) and request the green card from your insurer. • Tell family in Tunisia your dates so they can coordinate the wedding circuit.

Gifts list (the most important spreadsheet of the year). Plan by recipient — parents, in-laws, siblings, nieces, neighbours, the imam, the local épicier. Typical hits: • Perfume, cosmetics, sealed chocolates • Vitamins, supplements, EU-brand baby formula • Children's clothes (especially school uniforms) • Small electronics: kitchen scales, hairdryers, beard trimmers • Quality coffee and herbal teas If you're TRE and using OMRA: itemise everything with receipts/values for the customs declaration.

Print everything — Tunisia still loves paper. • Boarding passes / ferry boarding cards • Green card insurance certificate (for the car) • Hotel/Airbnb confirmations for any non-family nights • OMRA itemised list for customs • Emergency contacts (family, embassy, insurance hotline) Download offline maps (Google Maps offline + Maps.me as backup). Save Bolt and Ooredoo apps. Withdraw a small amount of cash in EUR before leaving — exchange a starter pack of TND at the airport on arrival, top up via ATM after.

• Buy a tourist SIM (Ooredoo/Orange) at the airport — €8–€15 for 30 GB. Faster and cheaper than roaming. • Get TND from the ATM in the arrivals hall (limit ~400–600 TND per withdrawal). • If TRE: keep your customs declaration receipts safe — you need them on departure. • First evening: light dinner, early bedtime. The kids (and you) will be wrecked. • Before unpacking gifts: agree with your spouse who gives what to whom. Avoid family politics.

• Exchange leftover dinars at the airport (need original exchange/ATM receipts). • Anything bought in Tunisia worth declaring on return to Europe? Keep receipts. • Confirm the car re-export stamp on your D17 ter. • Empty the fridge at the family house, charge phones, hydrate the kids. • Take a deep breath. You did it. See you next summer.
